Introducing DYC

Why “DYC” is for You:

Create layered and distinct Characters in a short amount of time…

Understand how to create (or deliver) authentic, natural dialogue…

Work out of a Character’s private, inner conflict quickly for inspired Characters…

Create a meaningful connection with your Character to prepare for an audition…

Understand the deeper aspects of the script or play’s plot points based on Character development…

What is “DYC”

The “Dating Your Character” screenwriting book provides a map of eight, creative, easy-to-follow, stepping-stones that point the way to a thriving writer-Character relationship. It’s designed to appeal to all levels of screenwriters for both film and TV, and it applies to all genres of storytelling. In short, “DYC” gives writers the solid footing needed to compete in a crowded, constantly evolving marketplace. This is all a way for you to make your own character come to life.

The “DYC” Method

The “Dating Your Character” system relies on the inspired spontaneity that comes out of a growing familiarity with your Character. The system tackles problem areas in current scripts, and in future scripts’ outlines to preempt possible traps. Writers chart a relationship by clarifying the Character’s transformation. The potential for your Character is tapped from the inception, i.e. from “meet cute” to the ultimate do-or-die moment in Act II… to the final FADE OUT.

“DYC,” really…?

For writing to be memorable and marketable, the connection between writer and Character must be profound. It even goes beyond wanting to know what makes her tick and what drives her to act; and we’ve interviewed writers who’ve admitted a strange feeling of “loss” upon reaching FADE OUT.

The “DYC” story system is an organic series of exercises that helps you establish deeper, more satisfying connection, akin to a real-time relationship, with your Character.  The book “Dating Your Character: A Sexy Guide to Screenwriting” naturally leads you to writing non-stereotypical, more memorable and more marketable Characters. Our “DYC” speaking engagements, workshops, seminars and the book offer you essential tools to connect with your Character.
